Well I just visited the "Buzz" and I thought I would take a hint from the Barlow Clan and give a list of some quick updates on what we have been up to since my last post (seven months ago) I got busy, then out of the blogging routine but I am back....at least for now! So here is a list of Young Happenings....

Rob and Karen are taking Ballroom Dance lessons
Karen's school got a new principal

Rob planted a huge garden

Andrea turned 18 (ahhhhh!!!!)
Andrea went to England and Scotland for 11 days
Megan got her learners permit

Youngs and Barlows visited and attended graduation in a hot sweaty gym!
Andrea was accepted to UNCG (University of NC Greensboro)
Spent two weeks in Hawaii where we tried out our SCUBA diving skills
Andrea went to the beach with friends
Spent a week on Hilton Head Island
In-between all that exciting stuff was laundry, housework and school

We also had the chance to visit Rob's sister and were surprised by a visit from Rob's dad and Vicki! We had a wonderful meal and also enjoyed a visit from Santa Claus! It was so great to see Aprils family and to crash at her house (even though they are going through re-modeling)

Aquarium!

We all enjoyed a day at the aquarium. It was great fun. Everyone enjoyed touching the Sting Rays! Our family is growing Brine Shrimp and Triops in our laundry room (I decided the kitchen was not the best place this time because Christmas is coming and who knows what company may stop by) Check out the YAP often for updates on our new creatures courtesy of SLC Utah!

Thanksgiving Plans?

OK BARLOWS!!!! We will be visiting for Thanksgiving week the 22-30. We want to spend some time with Rob's sister (probably the 22 or 23 but will be in Ephraim after that) I would be more than happy to talk to you-all for several hours on end boring you with all the details of our life in NC....or we could plan some good ole' family fun! What would you-all like to do while we are there???? (other than eating an enormous ammount of turkey) I would love to visit the aquarium in SLC (Dan mentioned it and I looked it up and it looks fantastic) or Thanksgiving Point (I have never been there) or anything else you guys think would be fun. First Home Football Game

Here is exclusive footage of both of my girls playing in the first home football game! It was so fun. Megan is the shortest on the field and Andrea has the shortest instrument's (piccolo) so they were both very easy to pick out. We have a large band for our area (190 students) and Mr. Homiller lets them pay even if they play football or cheerlead they still play in the halftime show! It is wonderful because no one is left out! GO COMETS!!!

Gravedigger Visits!

Gravedigger visited our school recently to grant a wish to one of our students. He was in my class last year and is visually impaired due to a tumor in his brain. The tumors have been removed but he still has medical problems and the Make a Wish Foundation granted his wish of getting a ride in his favorite Monster Truck....Gravedigger! He wrote about Gravedigger every day last year so it wasn't a surprise to me what he wished for. It was an exciting day although I didn't get any teaching done. They unloaded the truck (without the big tires) put the tires on and then gave Jason a ride down to the basketball court on the lower playground. Each class got a chance to go down and see the truck and get our picture with the driver. It was really cool and Jason was exhausted by the end of the day. He also received a pizza party with his class and the driver for lunch. He is a sweet boy and I was so thrilled to see him get his wish.

Barlows at the Beach

Sorry it has taken so long but I am finally posting the pictures of our beach trip with mom, Becky and the Speedster! Speedy hated the beach (what a baby)! He wouldn't get near the water and had to sit on "grandma's" lap if we were anywhere near the surf! Becky had a great time bobbing in the waves! At the beach we collected sea shells, saw live Star-fish, Hermit Crabs and many birds. It was beautiful weather and only rained on us one evening! We ate (a lot) and went to some fantastic restaurants. We even ate at a haunted restaurant (fantastic food, no ghosts seen) We spent one day in Savannah GA and even got to eat in Paula Deans restaurant "The Lady and Sons". In Savannah we also took a carriage ride (yes, even Speedy went) and we visited a Fort Pulaski. Speedy hated the cannon being shot off! We tried to visit an animal preserve but it was so unbearably hot we left as soon as we could and then took a nice air-conditioned ride around Hilton Head Island lead with our wonderful tour guide Rob! We also visited a lighthouse and went shopping. It was great fun and we invite all of you to join us next time!

Brookgreen Gardens

We spent several more days in Myrtle Beach after the Lawings left. One of our favorite things was our visit to Brookgreen Gardens. We got the "tip" to visit the gardens from Morris and Vicki. They visited Brookgreen when they were here visiting in June (I will post those pictures later....they are on Andrea's camera) The gardens were beautiful, we didn't even get to see them all! One of the things we got to do while there was feed the animals they had in a small "zoo" filled with animals native to South Carolina. The girls got a chance to feed the birds and otters. We had a great time!

Myrtle Beach with Lawings

We had a wonderful visit with the Lawings last week. They arrived July 8th and spent several days with us before we all headed to the beach. We spent our time in Asheboro shopping, swimming and spent a day in Seagove pottery shopping. Suzi and Andrea spent a day meeting Andrea's friends for lunch and then going swimming and "hanging out"! We had a great time at the beach laying out, thrashing in the waves, boogie boarding, listening to the band at "House of Blues" and of course going out to eat! It was a great time and we were sad to see them go!

I am getting all of your messages! Thank you! I have them forwarded to my e-mail (thanks to Tony teaching me how) I love to hear from you-all. I am so busy right now trying to close down the school year. I know that mom and Becky will understand! There is so much paperwork on top of report cards and all the fun stuff we do that I am just so bogged down. Everything is going well. Rob is running ads in the Greensboro paper and sending out postcards about free bleach for life (yea, that's right..) and we are getting calls and booked two weeks out (whew) School is ending on June 10th (June 13 for me) and everyone is so excited for summer. April (Rob's sister and her family) will be here on June 20 and we are all meeting in Hilton Head. We have a reservation at Paula Deans restraunt in Savannah GA! I am very excited. I am so glad everyone is visiting my blog and I love to hear all of your comments! Thanks so much and I love you all and I hope to see all of you very soon!

Rob's New Office!

Here are pictures of our new office. We opened a little late due to furniture delievery but Rob will see his first patients tomorrow (Monday, May 12) We are very excited! Everything is just beautiful and we are so pleased with all the equipment and the furnishings! Rob's assistants that worked with him at Dr. V's office have joined him and Rob has hired a new office/finance manager. It was a long process but seeing it all complete has been very rewarding! This is the front "quite" waiting room and refreshment area.

Andrea went to her first PROM!!! She went with Robert Marley. A group of her friends met here before they left for dinner to take pictures (there were 14 of them) Their parents and families also came so we had a FULL house! We all went to the lake and took some pictures there as well and I felt they worked out the best! After the group left our house they went to another friends house and met their white limo with disco lights and stars! They drove the Greensboro to the Marriott Hotel and enjoyed a "Vegas Style"Prom. After the Prom they went to another house for "breakfast". Andrea then went to her best friends house to spend the night and returned home this morning tired and very happy!

Now for Chicago! Andrea and I went to "The Windy City" with her band. We had a great time! We did so many fun things! We visited the Chicago Art Museum (we saw so many famous original works of art, very amazing) We went to see the New Orleans Jazz Band, the Shedd Aquarium, the John Handcock Building, ate Chicago style pizza and shopped on the Miracle Mile and the highlight of the trip, the off Broadway musical WICKED!!!!! Andrea also enjoyed a dinner cruise and got a chance to see the Chicago skyline at night. It was a great trip! I hope we can go back again someday!

Hey ya-all, we figured out what was wrong with the laptop so now we finally have all of our pictures downloaded and I can blog again (when I have time which is never) I did have a really good insentive to get things going because I have some great prom pictures of Andrea and her date and of Rob's office!!!!!! I couldn't wait to share. I hope you don't mind a bunch of pictures (I wish I could do it like Tony and put them all in a nice folder for you to view but..hey, I just got the hang of this blog thing and I don't think I should attempt anything new right now) Sooooo here comes the pictures! First of Disney...I know, old news but still fun! We went to Disney World for our Spring Break! Great fun, nice weather and big crowds!

Young Update

Sorry no pictures yet, I just wanted to give everyone an update. Megan downloaded our pictures yesterday so I will get on and post soon but for now I will just give you a hint as to what we have been up to.

Andrea has been asked to prom and has picked out a wonderful (way to old for her, makes her look so grown up dress) her mom is really sad that she is growing up and driving and dating etc.

Megan is doing well and up to her same old tricks and trying to grow plants in her room, got a new phone for her b-day (so she can text everyone now) and looking forward to spring and tadpoles and frogs!

Rob's office is so beautiful (pictures to come soon) He has hired two assistants (the same girls who were with him at Dr.V's office) and a new office manager. We are really excited and hope to see patients on Dan's b-day (May 5)

I am good, working hard and playing hard. Our family spent Spring Break in Disney World with 67,000 other people (that really was the number of people in the park) Dan and Tony would have never set foot in the place. We had a great time but the next time we visit will NOT be during spring break. I will post pictures soon!

Virginia Beach

Megan, Rob and I all went to Virginia Beach last weekend while Andrea was in Disney World. We had a great time even though it was cold! We did inside activities and had a great time! We visited an auqarium, went to a movie, the mall and went to a.........fast track to go racing. (yes, Tony you can have fast motorcross fun at the beach..you would have loved it!) We had a great time! Megan's favorite part was the racing!

SNOW DAY!!!!!

To all you Utah'ns. I wanted to post a picture of our "snow day". I know you-all will get a big laugh out of this. Especially Mike with his own Mt. Everest of snow in his front yard. We stayed home from school on Thursday because of "snow". Now I do want you-all to understand that the real threat is black ice, not necessarily snow, but I still find it comical because I am still a Utah girl at heart. I can still remember hiking to school in three feet of snow (uphill both ways) carrying my clarinet and my sewing box! That was rough. But Thursday I got to stay home because it was to dangerous to venture out! Today (Tuesday) we had a teacher workday but Rob had to work and the schools in Greensboro were in session. Rob came back home because they decided that it was to slick to put the dental van full of equipment on the highway. In fact , the Greensboro School District called all their bus drivers and told them to "pull over wherever you are, keep the heaters running (with kids on the bus) and stay put until 10:00 a.m. or after the ice has melted". They should have never sent the kids to school! It is a different world and I know all you snow shoveling, ice scraping, salt spreading, icicle loving Utahns will laugh when you see what sent everyone in our state rushing to the store for milk, water and bread so they could be prepared for the "big storm". I took my chances and I will get milk once it all melts (what a risk-taker)

Christmas 2007

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! We had a great Christmas! The girls had some surprizes and also recieved some of the items on their wish list to Santa!

Megan's biggest surprize was a PSP. She opened the games first and looked very confused while unwrapping them. She kept her cool but later admitted that she thought Santa had made a mistake and brought the wrong kind of games for her system. The last gift she opened was her PSP and she was so excited! She has been playing constantly since she opened it!

Andrea wanted a Vera Bradley tote bag so she could take it with her on her trip to Disney in January. Santa brought her one in her favorite pattern! Her big surprize was a professional grade digital camera so she can enter photo contests. She entered one last year but was disqualified because it did not have enough mega pixels to blow it up to an 11x14 size. Now she will be able to enter the contest in Feb.

We had a very "low-key" Christmas since this is the first one in a long time that we haven't had someone with us. Usually we have at least one of Rob's brothers here. We had great food and just relaxed, played games and watched movies!

It was great to see everyone during the Thanksgiving Holiday. Andrea and I had a great opportunity to see the cock-pit of the airplane! I was so shocked and was trying to play it cool when the pilot asked if I had a camera and wanted to take some pictures! I grabbed the camera from my purse and the pilot stood up and let Andrea take his seat "at the wheel".

Tonight the girls cooked dinner! We want them to learn how to cook so we have been letting them choose recipes, make a list, and cook...ALL BY THEMSELVES!

Tonight was a great success! I know you won't believe it but they made:

It was better than any restraunt! We loved it and I just had to share! The only thing Rob had to help with was flipping the fish! It was all a surprise to me!

We are so lucky to have such great girls!

Haz-Mat Scare?

Well, we had the firemen at our house recently. When we went out to get the paper Rob noticed a bright blue liquid in our stream. Since it has not rained here in months and our stream has been dry since July, Rob thought it was best to call 911 and have someone come out to "test the waters". Well it was quite a morning and as you can tell the girls had a great time taking pictures of the firetruck! It turned out to be a little old lady who decided she didn't like her pond anymore. She had poured a bunch of chemicals into her water to get rid of the algae and when that didn't work..she blew the dam and it flooded into our yard! All is fine now....if we could just get some rain!

Beach with Kevin

Our last beach trip of the year was with Rob's "old" (young) dental buddy. He flew in for 3 days and of course we headed to Myrtle Beach! We had a great time and loved to see Kevin again! We ate fabulous food and caught up on what each of us had been doing the last 3 years. Kevin had just purchased a dental practice and started his first day of work when he returned from vacation. We all had a great time! Everyone did what they do best! I sat around and talked on the phone and read my book, Megan found dogs and played in the sand, Andrea took pictures and Rob played in the surf!

Sorry I have been gone so long! Each new school year brings so much work setting up my classroom. I wanted to share some pictures and update you-all on what our family has been up to since our last blog. We had the chance to sneak in two more beach trips. One with Rob's brother Jared, his wife Melissa and new baby Aiden! We all went to Pebble Beach for a week (longer than our usual stays) It was wonderful but Rob and I quickly remembered why we are glad to have teenagers and not 7 month olds! Whew! I thought I would be the perfect Aunt and take care of Aiden and give Melissa a break but we quickly found out it took all of us just to keep the little guy busy. Of course Megan found every dog on the beach and dug in the sand for any critters she could find! Andrea, Melissa and I just soaked up the sun (I read a great book)

Megan Horse Camp

This is Megan , i had sooo much fun at horse camp!! We would get up at 7:00 each morning and get in out "grubbies". When we got to the stables we would go to our horse and groom, put their jelly pads on,put a saddle on them, wrap their legs, and clean their hoofs. I got the oldest, hardest, tallest, meanest (although i thought he was sweet) horse they had! his name was Bentley and he was my favorite :) we would try to make them trot, walk, gallop, and stop...it was hard workWe had to do a LOT of positions to not hurt the horse... some really hurt the next day :( On our second day we went to the lake! they had the coolest thing to play with like the "Saturn" and the "Blob". The Saturn's my favorite... it was a HUGE green Saturn in the middle of the lake that you had to swim to!! You had to try to get on and stay on. It was so hard to get on because it was slippery. The blob was so much fun too... it was this BIG floating rectangle full of air. you had to jump from a plank really high in the air(it was sooo scary) then you would go to the end of the blob and the next person jumped off and the person on the end would go flying in the air into the lake!! I flew the farthest since i was the lightest. The only bad thing about the lake was that there were TURTLES in the lake and if you didn't keep moving you would get bit!! My BFF was reading the side of the Saturn and all the sudden she screams "AHHHH ,IT BIT ME, IT BIT ME, IT BIT ME" she was on the Saturn so fast i got on the other side to see what happened and she was already on it :D I also made a new friend from Wisconsin... her name was Angelica but we all called her Jelly. I had a great councilor named Rebekah she was soo fun... except during "Flat time" when all she did was sleep. We went to the stables and we just kept doing the same things. Oh AND THERE WAS KITTENS THERE TOO they were so cute. On the last day we played games with the horses like muscle feedbags witch is like muscle chairs but with feedbags and u were riding horses. We also played Simon says where she would say trot or something.We had the best room in the whole campground..(really) we were in the lodge with great bathrooms (without bugs)great rooms with bunks and great lounge witch nobody but us had. the last night we slept on the soccer field...we chose to sleep under the soccer goal. Oh and i cant forget about "silly song time"... it is where ALL the councilors would go up and sing the stupidest songs but that was one of my favorite parts. And they also had a talent show for anyone who wanted to show some talent! i didn't go (stage fright) We also had a movie night where they popped popcorn and got a projector screen and let us stay up till 12:00 watching finding nemo. We also went on a high ropes course where you climb up REALLY high in trees and you walk across logs in the air and take a zip line down. One of my friends got all the way up there and decided to not take the zip line down(the only way down) and we stood there(with me still at the top of a tree) for 30 minuets!! at the top of a tree! and they finally broke the rules and let her down the ladder! I went down the zip line faster than anyone. I was so exited to go down! My BFF taped me going down the zip line and it looks sooo cool. After the high ropes we had a B.B.Q and they had burgers. yum. I had such a BLAST and REALLY want to do it again next year!

Becky wanted me to include some pictures of us camping in Dupont State Forest. This is mainly for the enjoyment of my brother Tony and his family who are outdoor enthusiasts! This is my idea of "camping" (of course I have noticed that Tony's idea of camping includes air-conditioning, PlayStation, bathrooms, campers and playthings like motorcycles, buggies etc. I am actually feeling like I was the one who was truly "roughing it"!?

Barlow's Visit NC

As you all know the Barlow Clan came to NC for a visit. We sure had a lot of fun but talked about all of you often. There wasn't a day that went by without someone commenting "Oh, I bet _____ would love this!" I wish we weren't so far away. It would be fun sometime to get everyone here for a beach vacation. I think it is possible if you-all could save up for airfare I bet we could get a condo at the beach and have a family reunion! It would be a lot of fun! Of course you all know you are welcome at anytime (and the visit comes with free dental checks...what a deal! ) I know that Daniel had a bunch of pictures on his site but here are a few more. As you probably already know we went to Myrtle Beach. We soaked up the rays and read some really great books and swam in the surf! In fact, you will notice there are not any pictures of Becky. The reason for that is because she spent every second in the water! The waves were bigger than I have ever seen. Rob said it reminded him of the waves in Hawaii! We visited Ripley's Aquarium and went out to eat and watched movies in the condo. I wish we all could have been there! We miss you all and we are planning on coming for Thanksgiving. (although I know most of you are going to your in-laws for the actual dinner but I am sure we could come up with a time we all could get together!)

HILTON HEAD.....SC

Our time in Hilton Head was wonderful! Next time we will bring our bikes, there were many trails and you could bike all over the island. We had a great time and enjoyed eating out and laying around in the sun! Megan collected sea creatures and kept them in her hat! (next time we will bring a bucket!) We also got to see an alligator just sitting next to a little pond in our hotel complex! At first we didn't think it was real but after awhile it created quite a stir and there were cars and people everywhere just trying to get a look! Megan was in heaven. Andrea's favorite part was the cute lifeguards who came to Megan's aid after she cut her foot on a sharp shell. My favorite part was the wonderful seafood and the break from housework!

Hilton Head

I am so glad everyone likes my blog! This is so fun and easier than I thought so I hope I will be able to keep up with it! I am now adding a new feature to my blog (similar to Tony's...although you-all won't be able to join us on our family outings very often) Our family is going to Hilton Head soon. We wanted to try somewhere we have never been. I just didn't realize it was actually further away than Myrtle Beach even though it is in NC instead of SC (I guess I should have paid more attention to Mr. Mickelson in Geography in HS) It is about a 5.5 hour drive from here (Andrea is going to drive....AHHHH) I will post some pictures after we get back. I will be looking forward to lots of pictures from the Blue Lake vacation you-all are taking (even pictures from those of you who are staying home) Love you all and thanks for all your comments.

Megan News

Here is some Megan News. She is enjoying her summer and as always collecting, observing and saving creatures from danger. She loves animals, reptiles and other slippery things. She recently helped her friends rescue a mother cat and her kittens from a storm drain. It took several hours and some very patient firemen but they finally rescued the cats and have now found all of them homes. I am also inculding a picture Megan recently took of her and all her friends and a picture of her holding two turtles she recently caught. We have a strict rule...two habitats on the counter for only two days and then you have to let them go. So far this rule has worked well and we have been able to observe nature without killing it!

Bird News for Dad

We have a Eastern Bluebird house in our backyard. It is hard to get them to nest and can take a couple of years but after two summers of waiting we have our SECOND nest of bluebirds! We have our binoculars set up on a tripod so we can watch them closely. This morning a hawk landed on the bird house! We were very nervous and watched him for several minutes and he finally flew off! I thought you would enjoy the photos. We think it is a Red-Tail Hawk. We have a pair of them flying around all the time but one has never landed this close to the house before!

Rob's New Office

In case you haven't heard the loong story....Rob is starting out on his own in Greensboro. I will post more details later...or ask mom. We are really excited and our building is really cool and Rob will hopefully be open in November or December of next year. We are waiting for bids from the contractors. I will send more pictures once we get starting "upfitting".

Wish us Luck; Eat lots of candy, drink Mountain Dew and Kool-Aid and don't brush or floss! (we need the business!)

Andrea's Sweet 16

Hey, I am on a roll! Here are pictures of Andrea's Sweet 16 party. She invited 75 of her closest friends (whoever made the rule "only half will show up" should be shot) She had about 57 show up! It was a blast nobody was hurt physically or mentally! We had food, a DJ and lots of silly teenagers! What fun! Check out the pictures. (Becky is helping me so if this doesn't work blame her)

To all you Barlow Putz's! I finally figured this out with Becky's help! We had to enable some cookies....didn't even know my computer could supply me with daily cookies! I will get a crash course when the Bark, Putz and Biker visit me in a week. Then I will be a pro. I just wanted to see how many comments I could get. Shelly thinks I have the record! WOOOHOOO!!!
